Tiruvadi Deekshai (Baptizing with Fire)

Tiruvadi Deekshai (Baptizing with Fire)

ArutPerum Jothi ArutPerum Jothi                                                          ThaniPerum Karnunai ArutPerum Jothi.

Deekshai is the combination of two words. Deekshai = Thee + Akshai. “Thee” means fire and “Akshai” or “Aksham” means eyes. So Deekshai implies Simulating or Kindling the divine light or divine fire present in our eyes by a qualified Gnana Sarguru using the divine light and divine fire from his eyes.
Tiruvadi means holy feet of the Lord. The holy feet of the lord in our body are the divine light present in our eyes.

By the way of Deekshai a disciple get divine consciousness in the pupil of his eyes.
For a normal person the divine light in the eyes is idle and a person acts as per his Karma(s). By acting as per his whims which is influenced by his Karma’s a person keeps accumulating the Karmas and will always undergo repeated birth(s) and death(s).

When the divine light is Kindled after Deekshai and does Penance on this divine light the light will increase and so do the divine consciousness and divine fire which will burn out one’s karmas.

Only after Deekshai in which the divine light present in the pupil of eyes of disciple is rekindled, will a disciple be able to do penance by keeping his mind on this divine consciousness that is got after deekshai.
Deekshai is what getting baptized by divine fire and holy spirit.

The divine light in our eyes can only be induced by the divine light from the qualified Gnana SarGuru.
Today our SarGuru SivaSelvaraj by the grace of all saints and Gnanis has been seated on the GuruPeedam and providing Tiruvadi Deekshai to the People coming to him. In fact through him it is TiruArutprakasa Vallalar who is giving this Tiruvadi Deekshai.

By the way of Deekshai Saint Vallalar will be with our soul helping and guiding us.
Jesus said “Eyes were the lamp of our body and the Lord is as divine light and if one walks in the light he can reach the lord”.

The Eyes which were the lamp of our body can be lit only by other lamp that is already lit and which is capable of lighting other eyes. Only a qualified SatGuru who is made as Guru by great Gnanis and Saints can lit the divine light of one’s eyes.

After getting Deekshai one can go inside within them using the divine light of their eyes and then realize the lord.

During Deekshai one has to first open his eyes and see the Eyes of the Guru. Penance has to be done by keeping the eyes open and thinking on the divine consciousness that is got.

As we seen earlier Karma is the one that hides the divinity within us. There is a small hole of the size of needle tip in the center of the Pupil of the eyes. This hole is covered by Karma as 7 layers.

Soul is present in the center of the head in the place where our two eyes meet internally. The characteristics of the soul is divine light and divine fire. This divine light of soul is displaying itself in our two eyes and this divine light in our eyes is what covered by the layer of Karma mentioned above.

Do Understand clearly the divine light of our soul is not the outside light that we are able to see. This divine light of our soul cannot be induced by any materialistic thing. This can be kindled only by the divine light of other Soul by the way of eyes. This can be done only by a SarGuru.

During Deekshai Sadguru pierces the layer of karma and lits the divine light of our eyes by his divine light present in his eyes. This process is what is called as taking birth again. One who has taken Deekshai is called as Twice born.

So it is important for any person who has taken birth in the human body to see a guru and get Tiruvadi Deekshai.

Every person gets father and mother automatically and only by his efforts and search he can get a Guru. It is very important to get a Guru and get bapitized by him. Only after getting deekshai one can do penance , burn out his karmas and realize himself and then realize the Supreme Lord.

Qualification for Getting Deekshai

  1. Any one who is born as human and living as human get Deekshai.
  2. One should never eat Non-Veg food which involves bringing sufferings to other creatures. Only pure vegetarian food has to be taken.
  3. One should never take Alcohol, Durgs, Cigarettes or any thing that spoils our intelligence and bring unconsciousness.
  4. One should never have illegal lust. For attaining the Lord other then their spouse every other people should be seen as brothers and sisters.
  5. By Leaving all these habbits and taking oath of not doing it again one needs to meet the SarGuru, humble before him offering one’s respects and then take Tiruvaid Deekshai from him.

One Human - Vallalar

(Chapter 1)
In Chennai in a place called ThiruVotriyoor and in the street where chariot of gods used to be drawn, a naked saint was sitting and commenting on the members who were walking on the street. He was commenting on the people by telling “see a cat is walking, a dog is walking, a donkey is walking, a pig is walking, a snake is walking.”
When our saint Ramalingar came that way he called him “See here a man of great virtuousness and nobleness is coming”.
The saint who is commenting on the people is called Dhigambara Saamiyaar. He is calling people based on their character. When he saw Ramalinga Adigalar he called him as a man of great virtue.
In middle of people who were born as human but behaving and living as animals, Ramalingar roamed as a man with great virtue.

He is the man who has controlled his mind and not the one who goes/acts as per the whims of his mind. By constantly thinking on the supreme lord he has made his mind pure, matured and divine.
Ramalingar lived according to the saying “Donot go as per your mind wishes”.  According to the divine saying his mind is always in a place where it is controlled. (The mind will be controlled when always kept on the lotus feet of the lord which is the divine light in our eyes in our body.)
Since he controlled and lorded over his mind our saint Ramalingar has become a human.
This man becoming/attaining saintness is Gnanam (divine wisdom).
So the first thing for us is since we have taken birth as human, we have to first become a true human(both in body and in our character) and only then we can attain nobleness and divinity.
Our saint and seers tells
“Getting human birth is the rare thing.
It is still rare to learn the education of Gnanam (divine wisdom).
Still rare is doing divine donation and penance. “
With the great birth of human our Ramalinga Adigalar learned the rarest education of divine wisdom from the supreme lord himself. With Singularity and oneness and by always thinking of the lotus feet of the lord he realized him. He did penance all the time by constantly thinking, realizing and relaxation on the lotus feet of lord (Lotus feet of the lord in our body is the divine light in our eyes).
The benefit of his penance is that his wisdom grew so much that it went beyond universe of universes. His physical body became body of divine light.
The blessings and attainment he got is such that there is no one equal or greater than him.
This great man being born in the date of October 5 1823 lived with the physical body till the age of 51 and then he converted his physical body to divine light body and is still living with us.
Like all of us saint RamalingaAdigalar (also called Vallalar) is also a simple human born inside the womb of a mother. Because of him constantly thinking of lord he lived in the state of Moona (Tranquility, peace and silence of mind).
He lived with no attachments on the temperorary worldly things and hence he is not affected by the materialistic world.
Since his mind is always in union with the supreme lord his wisdom and knowledge radiated brilliantly. Because of this he realized everything without reading any book or going to school.
He tells “I learned everything from you (Supreme Lord)”. He learned the supreme spiritual education of Deathlessness from the supreme lord.
Remaining in a single place with the state of sleeping without sleep and in a state of complete silence and peace(moona) and with ever hungriness of soul and with his mind fixed firmly on the lotus feet of the lord and with his eye flowers blossoming he did penance with his eyes open and with alertness.
Result of this is the human Ramalingar became saint Ramalingar and was called ThiruArutPrakasa Vallalar.
He realized “that” which is present in him is nothing but is part/feature of the supreme thing that is present everywhere and is almighty.
He also realized that the same divinity present in him is present in everyone. He saw that the same divinity is filled everywhere in this universe.
He became “that”. The strength he had possessed got transformed to divine power. He realized infinite bliss and supreme pleasure because of this.
Because he came to knew “that” and realized “that” and became “that” he got the qualities of “that” which is of infinite compassion. Because of this our Vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar became a Philanthropist.
He saw every soul as his. He withered on seeing the withered crop.
He felt sad for the suffering of soul because of ignorance. He felt bad on seeing the people doing immoral and bad things. He feared on seeing people doing atrocious thing because of their ego. He felt the pain suffered by other living beings.
Seeing other soul as his is Singularity. This is the spiritual oneness. This is the quality of a person who has become a philanthropist.
As a human atleast one has to remove the hungriness of others.
Because of food a living being will get life and live, and then it will mature. (Spiritually).
Once the soul matures it will immerse itself in finding who the philanthropist is.
One who searches the supreme lord who is the supreme philanthropist, such a man will naturally help the poor and needy. Such a person naturally will develop love and compassion.
So, for the people who have just begun their search for the philanthropist, our vallalar thought food should not be an issue. So to alleviate the hungriness of the people vallalar started Dharma Salai (in vadalur) which provides food to all with no cost.
He removed the suffering due to hungriness of the people. He called all the people to provide food to the needy.
We the humans who have taken human form and for us to become noble humans, he told us his divine experiences. This collection is called “ThiruArutpa”. It contains around 6000 songs and teachings.
ThiruArutpa contains collection of all the teachings by saints and seers who have taken birth during different times in this world. This teachings were explained with simplicity and clarity.
Combining the teachings from great book of ThiruManthiram and ThiruVasagam , vallalar has given us the incomparable book of ThiruArutpa which explains about the divine greatness and ways to reach the supreme lord.
A man who has got struck in the birth-death cycle, he defined the way to come out by telling the divine words  “Stand in the Supreme Path of Chakra”. This chakra is our eyes and through his eyes vallalar is making us to realize that the way to divinity is through our eyes.
By realizing the supreme lord he got supreme bliss and supreme pleasure. He prays to lord that like him every soul should get this supreme bliss and supreme pleasure.
In ThiruArutpa he sings “The whole world should get the blessings and attainment as I have got”.
If a human removes all his impure and bad character and then follows the teacher who knows the supreme philanthropist and lord then he will become a true human and then will become a saint and then will shine as philanthropist.
“Protection to our eyes is the lotus feet of the supreme lord”
The holy feet present in our eye which is the divine light of our eyes, is the one that comes with us on our way to divinity.
“Two divine lights of our eyes which burns were the sun and moon in our body”
So in our body the divine light of our eyes were the sun and moon, and this was conveyed by all divine philanthropist and great seers and saints.
“So the place that is needed to know to realize oneself were the divine light of our eyes. Only the one who realizes himself will know and realize the supreme lord”.
One who realizes the supreme lord who is the supreme philanthropist will become a philanthropist.
If we enter inside the pupil of our eyes and fix our mind there then we can see the supreme lord, realize him and attain nobleness, saintness and greatness. This is what vallalar teaches us. We can live a supreme life which is a life of deathlessness with supreme bliss and supreme pleasure.
Our noble ancestors were advising us to live a life with lot of disciplines and has defined us a way for good living.
We have to get before the sun rises. After finishing our morning bodily needs we need to pray the lord and do chanting of lord names and do meditation. Take breakfast only at 11 AM. Before that take only liquid food.  During afternoon take pure vegetarian food. Then before the sun sets eat dinner in small quantity. During evening also involve yourself in doing chanting and meditation. Do your daily duty dutifully. Be with truth, sincere, honest, pure and follow the life disciplines. In all ways for a human to live life like a human our saintly ancestors have given as life code for us to follow.
If we follow the life disciplines and live our life in this way, then we will get peace of mind. Only when we get peace in our life, then will our wisdom start working and growing.
When a man’s wisdom starts acting then he will start respecting others. Where there is peace and calm only there the divine light will be visible.
“Come oho people with divine light in your eyes

Come oho people with very strong heart” – Song by Tamil Poet Bharathiyar.
MahaKavi Bharathiyar lived a very good life.
Mahatma Gandhiji lived a very good and noble life.
Our Saint Thiru Ramalinga Adigalar Vallalar lived a very good, noble and virtuous life.
One who does not see differences based on caste, religion or race is a true human.
One who suffers on seeing the suffering of others and shows compassion to all is a true human.
One who sees all the soul as his is a true human.
Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed Nabi – all these people were example for good and true human.
Our Philanthropist Vallalar sings “Oho supreme lord and supreme philanthropist, whenever I sing about you my mouth is emitting sweet fragrance and all my bad karmas were getting removed from my house (my body)”.
Only our ancestors have defined the code for a human to live like a human. Right from the time immemorial there were so many people in our country who lived as humans and saints. There were so many people who lived a noble and complete life. They lived the life realizing that the supreme lord is the “beginning and the one responsible for everything”. With this realization they sang praises on him and lived by surrendering to him.
In the beginning there is no death and disease. After living a very long eventful life they attained the state of JeevaSamadhi. JeevaSamadhi is the state where the soul doesn’t leave the body with the state equivalent to that of supreme and in which all the outward activities were withdrawn inside. This is one way of overcoming death.
Leaving a life without any disease they overcame death by attaining the state of JeevaSamadhi. This is because the code and discipline that they followed in their life is very noble and great.
In this way India is the only country which gave and still gives the code and discipline for a human to live like a human. This code and discipline is called as “Sanadhana Dharma”.
In India there were so many people who lead their life as per this Sanadhana Dharma. That is why we find so many people here who have got the grace of the supreme lord. Who are the persons who lead the life as per sanadhana Dharma? We find answer from vallalar who tells “Who doesnot see any sort of difference among the souls and who sees all the soul as his” were the people who lives the life according to Sanadhana Dharma. Vallalar calls those people as “sanmargi”. Doesn’t we people want to become Philanthropist?
So for us to become a good human first and then become a saint let us follow the foot steps of our great saint Ramalinga Vallalar.
So let us live our life as per the teachings of our saint Ramalinga Adigalar (Vallalar). Let us follow the Sanmarga path shown to us by our vallalar. Let us become humans first.
When vallalar Ramalinga Adigalar was just six months old his parents took him to the holy Nataraja temple in Chidambaram for a darshan of Nataraja.  There is a place in the temple which is called “Chidambara Ragasiyam”(Secret of Chidambaram). When the child Vallalar saw this he laughed big. On seeing this the priest in the temple blessed the child by telling that in future this child will become a great saint.
Our vallalar did not attend any school and even when put on school he did not go there. Instead he had this habbit of often visiting the Lord Muruga temple near his house and praying to the deity there. It is his teacher who was the first to know the extent of his knowledge and intelligence.
Vallalar’s elder brother is the one who gives religious discourses in the temple. Once when he had ill-health, his younger brother vallalar was sent to give the discourse. Our vallalar gave discourse and explanation for a single hymn throughout the night. The discourse was so good and so deep that those who heard the discourse were completely spell bound and enjoyed every word of him. After this they wanted only vallalar to give them the discourse and not his elder brother.
His Elder brother realized the greatness of his younger brother only after this incident. This is the incident after which Vallalar’s greatness was known by all.

How to do Meditation or Penance?

Dear all with oneness of soul, with the grace of our Gnana Guru Vallalar and Sarguru Thiru shiva selvaraj we are bringing out in this article “How to do Meditation or Penance”. The below said way is the way in which Penance was done by vallalar and all the great saints to reach and attain Lord.  Please read it completly and with attention.

Today everyone is of the opinion that Penance or Meditation means something that is done by sitting at a place with our eyes closed and imagining some forms or chanting some auspicious names or mantras of the lord or closing our eyes and observing our breath.  But these were not penance. The above said techniques at the max will allow once to attain a state or give spiritual maturity to do penance and that’s it.  Worse if someone does meditation with the closed eyes then he will be trapped in illusion or Maya.

So the first step for everyone to understand is Meditation or Penance should never be done with closed eyes. Penance is the one which should be done with our eyes open.

If one does any spiritual practice with his eyes closed then only Maya or illusion will be working there. That is why our saint vallalar has asked us to be “Awake”. In Tamil Awake is called as “Villithiru” which implies two things. One is having our eyes opened and other is being aware. Penance has to be done with awareness and also with our eyes open. Eyes can be fully opened or half-opened but never closed.

Among us we have a strong opinion that when our eyes are opened we will see the outside world but when we close our eyes and do mediation we see the supreme lord within us. Thinking that opening of our eyes as the external eye and closing of our eye is the internal eye is the biggest ignorance that we have imagined ourselves.

It is again an illusion thinking that when we close our eye there is calmness which will lead us inside.
Think this way, closing of our eyes is darkness and opening of our eyes is light. Telling in other way closing of our eyes is like New Moon Day and opening of our eyes is Full Moon. In order to indicate this only it is recommended in our country to visit holy place and holy mountains during Full Moon Day. In India we find so many people going around holy mountains and also Jeeva Samadhis of saints during Full Moon Day.

When we close our mind and imagine something then it is possible to see any forms that we visualize. This is again illusion and not true divine experience. Any vision that is got with open eyes when we are fully awake and alert is the true divine experience.

When one person dies we call that the person has closed his eyes isn’t? Even in this world to do any work we need to open our eyes isn’t and this is true even in our spiritual practice.
It is also said during the auspicious day of Shiva Ratiri (Auspicious night of lord siva) if one does not sleep or keep his eyes opened and worship the lord then he will attain the abode of lord.  This is to emphasis the importance of being awake and keeping of our eyes opened for any spiritual practice. Our saint have conveyed this information  through the way of devotion.

In Bhagavat Gita also Lord Krishna recommends one to do penance with eyes opened only.  Great Saint Thirumoolar in his works says “Blind Person Leading Blind men will fall together in the pit of death”. Here he clearly talks about person who teaches peoples incorrect way of doing meditation (doing meditation with closed eye) and the followers of that person finally dying instead of overcoming death.

Now it was seen that Penance has to be done with open eyes! Now let us see how to do penance. Here also the great saint Thiurmoolar in his works ThiruManthiram writes as

“Breaking through the lamp and lighting the light in the lamp
Raising/Simulating the light inside the lamp
And who realizes about the light within the lamp, for them
Union with the Lotus feet of the Lord of the light of the lamp will be possible”   – ThiruMantiram Song 2186

This is the great words which clearly explains how one should do Penance and what is the role of Guru in it. The light that was lit was done by a sarguru.  Let us see the meaning of the above great song.

What is meant by breaking through the lamp and lighting the light in the lamp? To understand this let us see what does Lamp denotes. In human body Eyes were the lamp. Remember the great words in Bible by Jesus “Eyes were the lamp of one body”.

Lighting the light of the lamp indicates – at present we do not have the capability to look inside us, so one has to lit the divine light of the lamp to look inside us. How do you lit a lamp? Through other lamp that is already lit right? So a qualified satguru by the process of Deekshai will lit the light of the lamp by the divine light in his eyes. This is the first step, so in order for one to do penance the divine light in our eyes has to be lit meaning should be initiated to look in.

Why it has been told that before lighting the lamp it has to be broken? It is not that there is no divine light in our eyes now, it is there but it never acts meaning this light is hidden by one’s karma. Everyone’s divinity that is present in one’s eyes is hidden by the karma that one has been born with. So in order to initiate this divine light or make this divine light to act the guru has to break this layer of karma that is covering one’s divine light in the eyes. Breaking also indicates the eyes has to be kept opened. Only when our eyes were open can the Guru’s divine light from his eyes can lighten our lamp (Eyes). By breaking through the barrier of karma and initiating the divinity within us Guru is making us to born again.  This is what conveyed in Bible as “One who does not born again will not reach the kingdom of the lord”. Saint Agastiyar also tells one should know the way to born again indicating this. A person who is born again by Guru through Deekshai is called Duvichan in Sanskrit.

Raising/Simulating the light inside the lamp –
The second line tells how one has to do Penance, the purpose of penance is to simulate or increase the effulgence of this divine light in our eyes by constantly keeping our mind on this. How to keep our mind on this divine light? When one is initiated by a guru, the guru lightens the divine light of our eyes, when this divine light is lightened one gets divine consciousness in one’s eye (a sort of burning sensation or feeling inside the eyes). The sadaka or the disciple now just has to concentrate on this consciousness and do nothing. When the divine light is simulated or increased by constantly fixing our mind on it the 7 layers of karma that is hiding our divinity will melt and one gets to see his Soul called Anma Darshan. So with our eyes open and keeping our mind on the divine consciousness in our eye that is got through or initiated by Guru is the correct way of doing penance.

Now Third and Fourth line explains what happens when one does this penance
And who realizes about the light within the lamp, for them
Union with the Lotus feet of the Lord of the light of the lamp will be possible – When the divine light increases and melts our karmas we get self realization and Gnana after which we can unite with the lord of the divine light, which is called Lord’s holy feet. So for the 3rd and 4th Step to occur which is getting Gnana/divine wisdom and reaching the Lord 1st and 2nd Step has to be done.

So one can do penance only after a Sarguru has initiated him. This process is what told by Yovan in Bible as “I am initiating you with the holy water but the one who is more powerful than me will come and he will give initation with the fire and the holyspirit”. Here Fire and Holy Spirit means initiation through sarguru’s divine light of his eyes.

Now the question comes is it not possible to do Penance without a Guru? The answer is NO. It may be possible for some person with extreme devotion like that of Kannapa Nayanar but for others without guru we can no way have self realization and attain lord. This divine light of our eyes is called as Holy Feet of Lord and by various code words like 8 and 2 (Right and left Eye), Sun and Moon, Siva and Sakthi and MeiPorul or Thiruvadi or Padaka.
By Penance we should know and realize about the divine light of our eyes and this divine light lights our wisdom and knowledge. So to lighten or see the light we should open our eyes right! So do penance with Eyes open. Penance in short is the art of doing nothing and just being there. Doing Nothing and Just being there is keeping our mind always on the divine light of our eyes and never flowing with the thoughts.

Now the important question is Can any one be initiated and do Penance? Yes any human being can be initiated and do penance but the person hence forth should live a noble and virtuous life and never do the five great sins which are Stealing, Lying, Alcoholism or Using Any Drugs, Killing which includes eating Non-Veg Food and illicit desire or Lust. Only a pure soul with penance and love can reach the supreme lord.

To know more please read Thiruvadi Upadesa in our website and also our Articles and books.
Our SarGuru with the grace of Vallalar gives this initiation or Deekshai.  So for, he has published around 27 books explaining in detail about Thiruvadi. His Publication also includes commentary on the great works of ThiruMantiram, ThiruVasagam, Thiruvarutpa. By all these books he has established that the wisdom conveyed by all these saints and the way of doing penance is same. All these books were written in Tamil. We have translated two books Saakaa Kalvi (Spiritual Education of Deathlessness) and Vallal Yaar (Who is Philanthropist) and is available in our site. If anyone needs hard copies of the books in Tamil (totally 27 books) and in English 2 books can contact us.

Where is lotus feet?
